The PA SILC promotes disability rights and the independent living movement in Pennsylvania by working with individuals, as a council, through partnerships with 18 Centers for Independent Living throughout Pennsylvania and other organizations.
The policy initiatives on which the PA SILC focuses are derived from the State Plan for Independent Living (SPIL). The PA SILC prepares the plan every 3 years based on the input of people with disabilities throughout Pennsylvania. The plan identifies the issues people with disabilities want the PA SILC to focus our efforts during the next 3 years.
Policy Committees
From the SPIL, five policy committees are created to implement the policy initiative and solutions recommended by people with disabilities.
Committee structure
The responsibilities of each committee are derived from the SPIL. A governor-appointed member of the PA SILC serves as the committee chair and members are from the disability community and other organizations that share the committee's common concerns.
We welcome you to browse through these areas of vital interest to persons with disabilities and see if you share an interest. If so, please contact us to join the fight. If your area of concern does not fall within these five areas, look in the advocacy section for a broader range of areas that the PA SILC is concerned with and/or working on.
